The Disney+ She-Hulk series has found its showrunner.
Jessica Gao, who has won an Emmy for her impressive writing work and the beloved and acclaimed Rick and Morty, will be developing She-Hulk for the screen. Hollywood Reporter shared the news of the writer’s addition to the series, which will stream on Disney+, which launched on Tuesday, November 12.
On top of her work on Rick and Morty, Jessica Gao has also worked on HBO’s Silicon Valley and Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken.
The writer shared the news on her own Twitter account, and also tweeted that it was the “definition of a dream come true.” We’re so thrilled that Gao has achieved this dream, and can’t wait to see where she takes this exciting new series for Disney+
She-Hulk is the cousin of Bruce Banner, whose gamma radiation-powered transformations come with the twist of letting her retain her full intellect even when hulked out, allowing her to pursue her day job as an attorney even as she also smashes bad guys alongside the likes of the Fantastic Four. That mix of legal weirdness and superhero action has always lent her books a more comedic tone—this being the book that established, for instance, that law firms on Earth-616 maintain full archives of in-universe Marvel Comics, the better to bust them out as evidence in court.
It’s not yet known where She-Hulk will fall in the Marvel “Phase 4” schedule, but when it does premiere it will join a ton of other original Marvel content on Disney+. This includes the Loki series, Falcon and Winter Soldier, Wandavision, the What If? animated series, and so much more.
