Disney+ is set to introduce new parental controls globally from today, 23 February 2021 to better its family-friendly experience parents expect from the app.

The new parental controls will include the ability to set limits on access to content for specific profiles based on content ratings and the ability to add a PIN to lock profiles with access to mature content. This will prevent younger viewers from flipping to another family members profile to get around the lock.

The Disney owned streaming service is receiving updates on different platforms to get ready for the launch of the new parental controls and the new Star general entertainment brand in many countries around the world including the UK, Australia, Canada and across Europe.

Presently, Disney+ offers only two types of profiles – one unrestricted and one limited profile for children under seven. The children’s profile also limits content that has culture advisory warnings like Peter Pan.

The arrival of these new parental controls will help parents/guardians across the world have better control over what content is available or accessible to their children. However, it’s yet to be clarified if more mature content will soon be heading to Disney+ in the United States, with slightly more mature themes that National Geographic features. It’s only natural, easier and less complicated for the House of Mouse to probably implement the settings globally rather than countrywise.

The current ratings for a few shows are :

> WandaVision is rated 12+

> Wolverine is rated 16+

> The Incredible Dr Pol is rated nine+

> Moana is rated six+

> Toy Story is rated zero+

Subscribers will be able to adjust the parental controls from today, 23 February from the profiles section of the streaming service/app.
